standoff since yesterday when witnesses say the man stormed a school bus and demanded the driver give him one or two kids i. >> would were dropping some kids off a man who lives next door to them asked to get off the bus. asked the bus driver if he wanted something and gave him a note. i don't know what happened after that he said he needed a kid something about the law coming after him. and then he shot the bus driver. >> shepard: shot and killed the bus driver. and we learned today the suspect knew theictim the little boy. in fact one day before this all began the driver dropped off some food tort suspect as a thank you for some repair work he had done. folks who live in the area say the suspect was due to appear in court today to answer accusations he fired shots at a couple of his neighbors. they also say the guy is quite paranoid. always log for a fight that he once beat a dog to death with a piece of a pipe. another neighbor says the suspect patrols his yard at

night with a flashlight and shotgun. a local lawmaker says the 6-year-old hostage has been able to receive medication, apparently through some tubing that stretches up to the surface and that lawmaker says the suspect is also letting the boy watch tv still very frightening and unpredictable situation with an accused killer holding a child captive down in a bunker. our elizabeth prann is on fox top story. she is live midland city, alabama tonight. they are in contact with this kidnapper, right? yeah in fact we just heard from the sheriff's office an hour ago. they are in constant communication with the perpetrator. listen. >> the negotiators continue to communicate with the suspect. at this time we have no reason to believe that the child has been harmed. >> now, that being reiterated today by state representative steve class who has met with the boy's family. he tells reporters he is getting proper medication, food, and even tv access.

we do know we are expecting a press conference at 10:00 p.m. local. although authorities had given us no time line when this could be resolved. they are telling us they are going to keep this updated. >> shepard: i know they moved the reporters and tv back what's the scene like there, do you know? >> tensions are still very very high there. the bunker is only a few blocks away. right across the street. we have seen a steady stream of atf officials. we have seen bomb squad members with shields neighbors who can't return to their homes tell us the scene yesterday was even more volatile. listen. [announcement] shep, all it be very grainy that cell phone video from a neighbor saying that was police trying to apprehend the perpetrator before he got in the bunker. very tense. people don't know when they can get back in their homes.

elizabeth, thank you. cops in arizona are hunting for a shooter who killed one person in an office building and wounded at least two others. [siren] >> shepard: this happened this morning in phoenix where police explained how it all went down. >> the suspect came to this location. we believe he was a male suspect. we believe he was alone he went into an office building with the intent to contact some individuals. some type of an altercation ensued in which he shot several people. >> shepard: witnesses say when they heard the gunshots, they locked themselves inside the offices and waited a half an hour until first responders were able to get them to safety. trace gallagher has been tracking developments on this all day from our west coast news hub. do we know yet what sparked this shooting, trace? >> it's looking more and more shep like a legal dispute involving the alleged shooter and two of the victims. one of the victims is identified as a man who is a phoenix lawyer named mark hummel. he apparently was representing

the company being by the alleged shooter. the ceo of the company being sued steve singer is the one who was shot and killed. that right there is 70-year-old arthur are aman and police say he is the alleged shooter. they say it was during a mediation hearing today about that lawsuit that harman opened fire. >> job application. a guy come around the corner shooting his gun. i was trying to get out of way. >> describe what he looked like. who was he shooting at? >> i don't know about. two or three guys he was running after. >> now some eight hours later, shep. they say harman should be considered armed and dangerous. all along they said this appeared to be a targeted shooting, shep. >> shepard: it was looking earlier in the day, trace, like police have a lot of leads here. they certainly know who the alleged shooter is they know exactly what he was driving at least when he got away. they know where he lives. in fact, they are out their

doctor. fbi agents raided that doctor's clinic last night in south florida. sea long-time friend and donor to the democratic senator bob menendez of new jersey. he is the chairman of a powerful foreign relations committee. it's still not clear whether the raid involved the senator but it would not be the first time the two men have been linked. back in november, the conservative web site the daily caller interviewed prostitutes who said the senator paid them for sex in the dominican republic. the article claimed the senator flew to that country on the doctor's private jet. late today the senator's office acknowledged that he has traveled on that jet, but says that he paid for the trips properly. his office released a statement that reads: any allegation of engaging with prostitutes are manufactured by a politically motivated right-wing blog mr.. and are false. tonight, a senior source with knowledge of the new jersey politics has created a stir at the capitol as you might

a deadly ban of winter storms sweeping through the south and mid-atlantic in the east. two people reported dead. national tornado service reporting tornadoes have touched down in six states. here is a map of where the storms are right now. there are reports of twisters there could be more to come they tell us. georgia, north and west of atlanta. that tornado overturned cars and tractor trailers. flattened houses and trees. no warning sirens or nothing. as we were running in, he jumps in and my son dives on me. and i get pulled out the side of the house. and i was hanging out and his legs from trapped. and he had ahold of me. if it wasn't for that i wouldn't be here but my son held on to me. >> shepard: if you know that area where the twister meets u.s. high 40. a large factory there

demolished. rick reichmuth with more on the weather and where it is going. jonathan serrie live in aday or soville, -- adairsville. >> 60 miles to the northwest of atlanta. a major problem that they are dealing with is restoring electricity. it is still out, including in this area where i am. the only lights are those brought by all of the various tv crews and because of all the debris, it's taken a while for authorities to clear the roads so utility trucks can get into these areas. for several hours today, i-75, a major thoroughfare between atlanta and chattanooga was closed in both directions because of an overturned tractor-trailer scattering debris across that highway thats would cleared mid afternoon and traffic is back

open on i-75. shep? >> shepard: tornado sirens woke you up, i understand this morning? >> they did, indeed. that was in nashville. last night it was right balmy. some penal we saw weary shorts. in the wee hours of the morning the tornado sirens went off. hotel security starts shouting down the halls telling people to get down to the lower level multiple twisters reported across the volunteer state this morning. while think range from relatively woke to moderate. toppled a tree on to a shed, killing the man inside, and then several hours later that same squall line moved through adairsville, georgia killing one person living inside a mobile home, shep? >> shepard: jonathan serrie on scene, thanks. let's get to the weather center with rick reichmuth where this thing is going and where it has been. >> very strong storm for january, especially.

if this was april this is more typical of that for january, incredibly strong. still looking at where you see yellow threat of severe weather, all the way up towards jersey and in towards pennsylvania. almost unheard of this time a year. now we have a new tornado watch box in effect. one of them still in effect here across parts of georgia. new one issued here across parts of virginia. including washington, d.c. until 2:00 in the morning. we will go into the overnight. a number of these storms here have severe thunderstorm warnings in effect. so very strong winds. probably 60 to 80 mile-per-hour winds. which can cause a lot of damage. run one also south of washington, d.c. about the next six hours in the south. you can see this will prove pretty quickly here. by the time we get to around 12:00 tonight, we will be mostly clear across much of georgia. still some storms across parts of north carolina. we will repeat this up across the northeast, because it's

israeli plane bombed convoy inside syria. it marks the most aggressive foreign military strike on that nation since the syrian president bashar assad started killing his own people. those officials would not confirm a syrian government claim that the attacked military city near the capital city of damascus. according to the associated press they took out a convoy that they believe was attempting to deliver weapons including antiaircraft missiles hezbollah ball la in lebanon. militant organization and political party that has vowed israel's destruction and has strong ties to syria and iran. this comes less than a week after an aid to iran's supreme leader claimed that an attack on syria is an attack on iran itself. with that as our beginning "the fox report" correspondent jonathan hunt is here.

dozen others. kelly says giffords is still recovering, still struggling to walk and talk. in fact, she was not on the witness list for today's hearing. but the senators agreed to let her make a statement. >> speaking is difficult. but i need to say something important. violence is is a big problem too many children are dying. too many children. we must do something it will be hard; but the time is now. you must act, be bold, be courageous, americans are counting on you.

thank you. >> shepard: mark kelly says he and his wife are gun owners who have no plans to give up their weapons. even thought about joining the nra. after newtown they started a political action committee to fight for tougher gun restrictions. they are calling for universal background checks covering gun shows and private dealers and a ban on magazines with more than 10 rounds of ammunition which kelly says might have saved the youngest victim of the shooting that almost killed his wife. the first bullet went into gabby's head. bullet number 13 went into a-year-old girl named christina taylor green when he tried to reload one 33 round magazine with another 33 round magazine and he dropped it it and a woman named patricia mayse grabbed it and it gave bystander time to tackle him. i contend if that same thing happened when he was trying to reload one ten round magazine with another 10 round magazine, meaning did he not

have access to a high capacity magazine and the same thing happened, christina taylor green would be alive today. i certainly am willing to give up my right to own a high capacity magazine to bring that young woman back that young girl. will not keep criminals from getting guns. he is calling for better enforcement of the laws on the booings. keep weapons out of the hands of mentally ill. >> law abiding gun owner will not accept blame for the acts of deranged criminals. nor do we believe the government should dictate what we should lawfully own and use to protect our families. >> what responsible gun owner objects to improving the background check system? when i buy firearms in vermont i go through the background check. i would expect everybody else to.

>> i do not believe the way the law is working now, unfortunately, that it does any good to extend the law to private sales between hobbyists and collectors. >> you do not support mandatory background checks at all instances at gun shows? >> we do not because the fact is the law right now is is a failure the way it's working? senator, there needs to be change in the culture of prosecution at the entire federal level. it it's a national disgrace. the fact is we could dramatically cut crime with guns and save lives all over this country if we would start enforcing the 9,000 federal laws we have on the books. i'm talking about drug dealers with guns, gangs with guns and felons with guns they are simply not being enforced. the numbers are shocking. >> shepard: recent fox news poll found 56% of registered voters say they do support banning high capacity magazines. 54% say they back an assault weapons bannen? sores of the new ban are not sure they can
